At nine years of age, Jason Cox was sick and
suffering from aplastic anemia, a rare and serious blood disorder. Doctors
informed Jason and his family that the only possible cure for
his illness was a bone marrow transplant. Although only
30% of patients find a transplant match within their family,
Jason's older brother James was a match and the transplant saved
Jason's life
Since then, Jason has grown into a vibrant philanthropist who
founded and serves as president of Marrow Match™. He
is a dancer, an athlete and a performer who has dedicated his
life to effecting change within the transplant community. He
is a native of San Antonio, Texas with close ties to the community
and an outgoing personality that seeks to connect and help those
in need.
In 2008, Jason began training for the grueling Ironman Triathlon
to raise awareness about the serious need for viable, dedicated
and ethnically diverse bone marrow donors. He coined the
phrase "Marrow Me?" and "engaged" dozens
of new volunteers in the effort to add new donors to the Be The
Match Registry.
Jason is entirely focused on leading Marrow Match™ with
passion, creativity and bold determination. He knows what
it is like to fight for life and narrowly escape death with the
help of others.
